2nd Shift Quality Control Inspector

POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for checking and inspecting welds and fabrication processes in accordance with the AISC Standards. This position is also responsible for completing audits and necessary paperwork.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel’s core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
Interpret blueprints to fabricate structural steel
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Set up components for welding equipment in accordance with specifications
Align components using tape measure and squares
Weld components using semi-automatic welding equipment in horizontal and flat positions
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
Work with minimal supervision to complete work tasks assigned
Provide evaluations and recommendations on performance of systems and operations
Assist and Estimate hours on new job based on shop capabilities
Work in observance of OSHA and NIOSH safety standards
Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
Working Knowledge and comprehension of AWS D1.1
CWI PREFERRED
Prior experience in a similar role is preferred
5-10 years prior experience in structural steel
Must have welding experience (flux-core, MIG weld)
OTHER SKILLS
Strong functional and technical skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; strong attention to detail; ability to work effectively with others. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Use of hands for gripping and grasping required. Specific vision abilities are required. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position performs work mostly in the Shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
